WOW!!!
First Auction of 2006 and 7 sold out of 9 within 24 hours!
Welcome to 2006 and what may prove a surprisingly profitable year for all.
After being bombarded by the doomsayers since October that New Zealand was about to enter a recession (creating a few worrying months for underpaid Real Estate Agents) the New Year has started on pretty firm ground.
Not even a visit to Japan by NZ Government officials telling Japanese investors we're really a bit broke and not worth risking their yen here (wouldn't that be treason in a normal country???) has collapsed our dollar so we're reduced to the Minister for Finance, Dr Cullen and his economist cohorts pleading for some good New Zealand masochism – come on chaps, you've had a good time, really it's time for some real hardship, really.
Strange little place but that's part of our charm – you really can turn a profit in New Zealand . And there's no corruption, immigrants are not just welcomed but needed and property is the way to true wealth.
THE AUCTION
First up was the large one bedroom on Princes Wharf (no carpark and limited view) unfortunately being sold by the mortgagee to pretty determined bidding. Sold under the hammer for $194,000 which was a bit of a bargain.
Next up The Cube – a two bedroom downtown freehold, no car and surprisingly, no bids.
Viaduct Point, glamorous, two bedrooms by the water struggled to $350,000 and stopped dead to my great dismay. Sold the next day for $390,000. Deo gratias.
Knightsbridge, the lime green wonder on the K Rd ridge near our office nearly brought a tear to my eye. Huge permanent views but unglamorous two bedroom, 1 car started slowly at $220,000 then sped WAY past the reserve and sold under the hammer for $355,000.
DO NOT TELL DR CULLEN OR ANY GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL.
Harvard, a Hobson Street “shoebox” 2 bedroom, no car sold immediately after auction to the highest bidder who asked me while I was haranging him during the auction “Where's Hobson Street, is it freehold?”. Now that's the kind of buyer ONLY City Sales can find.
It turned out to be his wife's birthday and he had to come away with something!
$155,000 and good buying.
H 47 2 bedrooms at 47 Hobson Street with 2 carparks drew not a bid but sold next day for $345,000
The Aucklander 1 bedroom (no car) and needing some TLC was hot and trotted out at $129,000 which I thought was a healthy price. (Again this website is confidential and we would appreciate viewers telling others to keep it confidential too.)
The Statesman 2 bedroom, 1 carpark low down sold at about 11.30 that night for $336,000 and all parties were reported as exhausted. Especially our young Agent James Mairs who was dealing with a frustrated Vendor in London , his earnest Dad in Balmoral and a strung out Purchaser in Parnell. James had to start late after that negotiation and still has glazed eyes.
He thinks he is underpaid.
Finally a 4 bedroom shoebox with carpark and income of $450 per week is still going begging.
A nice Valentine's gift if you really love your wife.

Well a few. OK the odd one but we get them.
Maybe I can order that 300C after all.
Have a great 06!
