ECONOMICS AND MASOCHISM
BOLLARD A DEFTER TOUCH ?
Don't let him know, but we have resentfully come to the conclusion that our current Reserve Bank Governor, Alan Bollard wields a defter touch on the economy than his predecessor, Dr Brash.
Or , if running a masochism practice (if???), Dr Bollard would enjoy more repeat business than Don would have thought possible.
Being a born and bred New Zealander (many clients think I'm Australian but I just don't speak well) I am well used to violent fiscal attacks from our Government and Reserve Bank Governor just when we're enjoying ourselves. It's part of the national psyche and stems from the first settlers from England and Ireland having sailed through the tropics arriving to heavy rain.
The reason for this increasingly strange blurb is that City Sales has just enjoyed its best month (March) since last July. If that's all Alan can throw at us he's a pussycat. We hadn't even started beating the children.
Don on the other hand made an art form of one foot flat on the accelerator and the other hard on the brakes. As a struggling salesman I never knew what the day would bring. Now, I feel Dr Bollard has pretty neatly pre-empted the effects of fixed term low rate mortgages coming due this year (6.99% increasing to over 8%?) and factored this into leaving us alone to cope and watching with restrained if not morbid interest.
So throw away that umbrella and get in contact. We have again a level playing field and I feel the start of a new residential cycle.
Remember thinking, if only I had invested THEN!
Well, it's that time again (and it hasn't been that bad has it?)
As Rod would say (forgive my repeating myself - I am a salesman)."Never wait or hesitate, get in kid before it's too late - you may never get another chance"
(Thanks Rod, nice concert).
