RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011......DON'T DO IT!!!!
The America's Cup at least dragged on for 4 months of racing and there was the huge build up of crews and hangers-on setting up bases in Auckland up to a year prior but what a pain in the butt it was.
Mesmerised investors frothing at the mouth at the fantasy rentals touted by the newspapers...and what happened?
Suites kept vacant for months on end as the fantasists came down to earth that they could not simply demand absurd rents from a captive, fawning market and then the reality set in.
Sophisticated Team negotiators ran all over our harassed hopefuls and the stars in their eyes often became tears, especially when the parties had finished.
It was just a thankless hassle for what turned out to be a surprising number of dreamers.
Now we have the same scenario, hilariously titillated by RWC Boss Martin Snedden castigating NZers for even thinking of taking accommodation advantage while declaring tickets costs that require remortgaging the home anyway.
The games start Friday 9 September and finish Sunday 23 October....say 7 weeks plus a short bedding in period.
If you want to try for a higher rent during this period from a bunch of partying Pommie ex rugby players look at your insurance, cross your fingers (both hands) and know that we'll be there after they've departed.
But seriously, ignore it, keep those steady tenants and sleep well.
Even watch some games at the local.
You'll look around and pat yourself on the shoulder for being so smart.
